The OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir met on the sidelines of the 38th Council of Foreign Ministers in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan on 28 June 2011. Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General OIC chaired the meeting. Mr. Mehmet Aydin, Minister of Science, Industry and Technology of Turkey, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Secretary, Middle East, Asia and OIC at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Niger and OIC Secretary General’s Special Representative on Jammu and Kashmir Ambassador Abdullah Abdul Rehman Al-Alim attended the meeting.
A delegation of True Representatives of the Kashmiri people led by the senior APHC leader from Indian Occupied Kashmir Agha Syed Hassan Al-Mousvi attended the Contact Group meeting.
The OIC Secretary General reaffirmed OIC’s support to the Kashmiri people and their legitimate struggle for their legitimate right to self-determination. He expressed satisfaction on the resumption of dialogue between Pakistan and India to achieve a just and peaceful resolution of the long standing issue.
Agha Syed Hassan Al-Mousvi, in his address to the Contact Group, updated the meeting on Indian brutalities and human rights situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir. He apprised the meeting on the use of brutal force and high handedness of Indian security forces in Kashmir.He also thanked the OIC for its continued support to the Kashmir people’s just struggle. He called for regular monitoring of the human rights situation in IoK by the international organizations especially OIC.
Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar in her speech to the Kashmir Contact Group asserted that peace and security in South Asia was directly linked to a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. She apprised the meeting of the commitment of Pakistan to constructively engage India for a meaningful and result-oriented dialogue on Jammu and Kashmir. She reiterated Pakistan’s support for associating the True Representatives of Kashmiris with the Pakistan-India dialogue on Jammu and Kashmir.
The Turkish Senior Minister expressed anguish on the sufferings of Kashmiri people and reaffirmed Turkey’s support to their right to self-determination.
The Saudi Deputy Minister said that the Kingdom has always supported Kashmiri people’s struggle for right to self-determination.
The Representative of Niger urged Pakistan and India for constructive dialogue for early resolution of the Kashmir dispute. He reiterated Niger’s continued support for a peaceful solution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions.
The True Representatives of the Kashmiri people also presented a Memorandum to the Secretary General urging the OIC member states as well as the OIC Secretary General to reinforce their efforts for an early and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue.
