HE Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Manthri, Chairman of the State Council (Senate) received in his Office on March 18 2019 the visiting delegation of ‘Pak-Oman Friendship Group’ in the Senate of Pakistan consisting of Honorable Senators Mir Kabeer Ahmed & Ashok Kumar Ratnani. The meeting lasting half hour presented the perfect opportunity for both sides to refresh contacts at the highest parliamentary forum and review means of enhancing cooperation particularly in Parliamentary Business, Trade, Connectivity & Peoples Exchanges.

The above interaction was followed with the inaugural Session of ‘Bilateral Friendship Committee’ in the Upper Houses of both brotherly countries. The Omani side was Chaired by HE Eng. Majid bin Said Al Rawahi whereas Senator Mir Kabeer Ahmed led Pakistani side.

The Friendship Committee, underlining the unprecedented exchanges between both States’ Parliamentary, Political and Military leaderships during 2018-19, and the signing of four (4) accords during the period November 2018 to February 2019, expressed satisfaction at the sustained and soaring trajectory of bilateral cooperation.

Both sides stressed the significance held by Friendship Committee in enhancing bilateral cooperation in its entire spectrum for the larger benefit of both nations and agreed to convene their next session in Islamabad during 2020 which shall mark the ’80th Pakistan Day’ as well as the ’50th Anniversary of Blessed Renaissance’ period of Oman under the sagacious leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said al Said, may Allah continue to bless and guide him.

HE Ali Javed, the Ambassador of Pakistan, observed that the Committee reviewed parliamentary cooperation and training, peoples’ exchanges, bilateral trade and connectivity and followed up on understandings arrived at during the visit of HE Sadiq Sanjrani, Hon’ble Chairman Senate of Pakistan in November 2018.

The Ambassador highlighting the substantive program further observed that the ‘Friendship Group’ met Chairmen of both Houses of the Parliament, Chairman Pak-Oman Joint Investment Company & SEZAD as well as Chairman OCCI today whereas tomorrow, meetings with HE Minister for Transport & Communications and Undersecretary Foreign Affairs (Foreign Secretary) are planned.
