“Pakistan and Brazil will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Eradication of Famine and Poverty during 2018”, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Brazil H.E. Najm us Saqib stated after meeting the Federal Minister for Social Development Hon. Osmar Gasparini Terra today. Among other things, the said MoU will take into consideration the Brazilian public policies to eradicate famine and poverty in the areas of food and nutrition security, social assistance and income generation in order to promote cooperation in the related fields based on reciprocity and mutual benefit. Pakistan and Brazil will also have an opportunity to learn from each other’s expertise and knowledge in the related fields.

During the meeting, the Minister and Ambassador discussed various aspects of cooperation involving the relevant Ministries of Pakistan and Brazil while focusing on ways and means to increase cooperation between the two countries for the welfare of peoples of both the countries.

The Minister stated that due to positive initiatives taken by the Government of Brazil including cash transfer programmes and Bolsa Familia, the country has significantly reduced poverty. Brazil’s social development policy is now focused on child development and important areas like health, education, and technical education, the Minister added.

Both sides agreed to have the process of finalization of the MoU on Eradication of Famine and Poverty expedited while emphasizing the need to take follow up actions on the MoUs and Agreements already signed between Pakistan and Brazil.
