Pakistan calls for political solution to the Syrian crisis

Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Mr. Sartaj Aziz has said that there was no military solution to the crisis in Syria, and that a political solution was the only viable option.
He was speaking at the UN Security Council Session in New York Friday night after the unanimous adoption of a resolution aimed at elimination of Syria’s chemical weapons. Pakistan co-sponsored the resolution along with all members of the Council.
Mr. Aziz expressed the hope that the spirit of cooperation and new found unity in the Security Council would also be maintained in promoting the political process, in which regard early convening of the international conference in Geneva was important. Pakistan urged all sides in Syria to fully utilize the opportunity and engage in dialogue.
