Pakistan Day was celebrated at the Embassy with a simple yet elegant flag hoisting ceremony.

The ceremony started with recitation from the Holy Quran. The national flag was raised by Ambassador of Pakistan, H.E Nadeem Riyaz. Messages from President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out. Special prayers were offered for the progress and prosperity of the country.

The Ambassador in his address, paid rich tribute to the forefathers of the country, who had rendered tremendous sacrifices to ensure freedom for the coming generations. He stressed that Pakistan desired peace. It had defeated the menace of terrorism and has made strides in economic development. He urged the international community to fulfil its obligations to the people of Kashmir who are still struggling for their right of self-determination.

The Ambassador commended the positive role of the Pakistani community in Italy. He directed them to conduct themselves in a manner which brings a good name to the country. He stressed inter-faith harmony and the need to educate the youth. He said that each Pakistani in his/her right could contribute to keep the national flag flying high in the world.

In the afternoon, a reception was held at the Embassy. A band of the Italian Carabinieri played national anthems of Pakistan and Italy. The event was attended by diplomats, armed forces personnel, journalists, important functionaries of the Italian government and members of Pakistan community.

The guests appreciated the sumptuous Pakistani cuisine which included among other delicacies, barbecue, halwa puri and stuffed naan, prepared in front of the guests. An exhibition of Pakistani arts and crafts and the singing of national and regional songs was appreciated by the participants. Guests were presented souvenirs from Pakistan, including books, postcards and booklets on the touristic and economic potential of the country.
