Pakistanday was celebrated with zeal and gaiety in New Zealand on 23 March 2009. A simple and elegant flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Pakistan High Commission in the morning. A large number of Pakistani expatriates living in Wellington and adjoining areas attended the ceremony.
Earlier on 22 March, the first Pakistan Cup golf tournament was organised at Karori Golf Club as part of the Pakistan Day celebrations. A large number of businessmen, parliamentarians, diplomats and academics participated in the event. Traditional Pakistani food was served on this occasion, which was greatly relished by Kiwi participants and guests.
Pakistani born Member of Parliament, Dr. Ashraf Choudhary, President of the Club Geoffrey Lee and High Commissioner Munawar Saeed Bhatti gave away prizes to the winners. All prizes consisted of traditional Pakistani handicrafts.
