The Defence Day of Pakistan was celebrated today at the Embassy of Pakistan, Rome. General Enzo Vecciarelli, Chief of Defence of Italian Armed Forces was the chief guest at the occasion.

The celebration started with playing of the national anthems of both Pakistan and Italy. Air Commodore Fayyaz Mehboob, Defence Attache spoke about the significance of the Defence and Martyrs days and paid rich tribute to all those who had sacrificed their lives for the security and integrity of their motherland.

He gave the historical respective of the Defence Day and explained to the audience the recent disturbing developments in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK). He said that Kashmir is a disputed territory and Pakistan will continue to provide its political, moral and diplomatic support to the people of Kashmir. It is obligatory on the international community to settle the Kashmir issue with the UNSC resolutions and the will of the Kashmiri people.

The Defence Attache paid tribute to all those who had laid down their lives in fighting terrorism. He said that armed forces of Pakistan were ready to counter any misadventure. Pakistan is a peace loving country but will respond to any act of aggression.

He said that Pakistan was one of the largest contributor to UN peacekeeping operations. He stated that Pakistan and Italy enjoyed excellent relations which were on an upwards trajectory.

The chief guest and the Ambassador cut the cake after which the guests enjoyed traditional Pakistani cuisine. The embassy was tastefully decorated with posters honouring war heroes.

The event was widely attended by senior members of the Italian armed forces, Defence Attaches, diplomats, members of the think-tanks and the elite of the city.
