Pakistan deposited its instrument of ratification of the Amendment to the Convention on Physical Protection of Nuclear Material (CPPNM) 24th March, 2016 in Vienna. The Permanent Representative of Pakistan Ambassador Ayesha Riyaz delivered the instrument of ratification to IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano.
Director General Yukiya Amano congratulated Pakistan on ratifying the Amended CPPNM, which also brings the Amendment further close to its entry into force. He also appreciated the nuclear safety and security record of Pakistan.
Ambassador Ayesha Riyaz noted that Pakistan’s ratification of the Amended CPPNM demonstrates yet again that Pakistan is a responsible nuclear state which has put in place the highest level of security at par with the latest international standards in the field. She also appreciated the central and leading role of the IAEA in promoting nuclear security globally.
