Pakistan Independence Day Celebrated in South Africa

Pakistan Independence Day was celebrated in a simple but dignified Flag-Hoisting Ceremony held at the High Commission for Pakistan, Pretoria in the morning of August 14, 2018. His Excellency Dr. Sohail Khan raised the green and white Pakistan Flag as the National Anthem was played in the background. A full house comprising intellectuals, academicians, journalists, religious scholars, Pakistan loving South Africans, Pakistan community members and officials of the High Commission attended the Ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, High Commissioner underscored the invaluable contribution and historical efforts by the Founding Fathers Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Poet of the East Sir Allama Iqbal for their untiring efforts in the creation of a homeland for the Muslims of India. He presented rich tributes to ordinary people who laid down their lives for the great cause of attaining independence from the colonial masters and the predominant Hindu majority. He stressed that the younger generations of Pakistan need to play their role in taking the country forward.

Messages of the President and the Prime Minister were read out to the audience. Children from the High Commission their moving made speeches to highlight the efforts of the Father of the Nation and the struggle by the Muslims of the sub-continent.
