THE Pakistani community in Brunei Darussalam has warmly welcomed the appointment of distinguished military officer, General (Rtd) Tariq Rashid Khan, as the new Pakistani High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam.
In an unprecedented show of unity and solidarity, Pakistanis of different groups and organisations came together to welcome General (Rtd) Tariq Rashid Khan as he assumed his duty as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam.
An impressive ceremony was organised at a prestigious venue in the Sultanate, seeing the attendance of a large segment of community and officials of the Pakistan Embassy in Brunei Darussalam.
Speaking on the occasion, the High Commissioner thanked the community for the warm welcome, noting, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, it will remain my sincere effort to serve the community, address their problems as well as work towards expanding Pakistan’s diplomatic, economic, trade and strategic relations with the Sultanate.”
He added, Pakistan has long standing ties with the Sultanate of Brunei and there is tremendous scope to further expand the bilateral relations. Overseas Pakistanis are an asset to Pakistan and are playing a very positive role abroad and also in supporting Pakistan’s economy through their remittances. The government of Pakistan will always do its best to facilitate them in every possible way.
He also said he would make his best efforts to make substantive contributions in further enhancing bilateral relations.
