The Embassy of Pakistan in Kuwait in collaboration with the Kuwait Voluntary Work Center and UN Habitat organized a Pakistani Mango Festival at Souk Al-Mubarkya on 9 July 2023. Her Excellency Sheikha Amthal Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah honored the event as the Chief Guest. Several Ambassadors, diplomats, local Kuwaiti dignitaries, members of Pakistani community attended the festival, in addition to a large number of local residents.
In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Malik Muhammad Farooq conveyed his gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince, the government and the people of Kuwiat for their support towards Pakistan. The Ambassador particularly expressed his profound gratitude to Her Excellency Sheikha Amthal Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for gracing the occasion and admiring the succulent Pakistani Mangoes. He also appreciatied the organisers of the event: the Kuwait Voluntary Work Center, the UN Habitat and Pakistani community members in making the event a resounding success. Head of UN Habitat Mission in Kuwait, Dr. Ameera Al-Hassan, in her remarks, appreciated the Mango Festival, particularly the idea of making the visitors experience the sweetness of Pakistani Mangoes in the historic marketplace of Souk Al-Mubarkya.
Souk Al-Mubarkya, with its rich history and heritage holds great value for the Kuwaiti nationals and holding Pakistani mango festival at such a prominent place provided a perfect backdrop to exhibit harmony that exist between Pakistan and Kuwait. It was a momentous/ historic event that flags of Pakistan and Kuwait were displayed in the heart of Kuwait.
The Festival, showcased the rich cultural heritage and agricultural excellence of Pakistan, with prime focus on exhibition of world-renowned Pakistani mango ‘Chaunsa’ & 37 other types, including Sindhri, Anwar Ratol, Langda, Dusehri, etc. The event provided a platform for all the visitors to savor the rich flavors, captivating aroma, and nutritional benefits of Pakistani mangoes. Pakistani mango, renowned worldwide for its exquisite taste, aroma, and texture, is the 2nd largest food crop in Pakistan making Pakistan the 6th largest producer and 4th largest exporter of mangoes in the world. Pakistani mangoes are grown with utmost care, adhering to strict quality standards and adopting environmentally friendly practices.
The Festival was organized as a part of celebrations of 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Kuwait, which spans the entire year to reflect the convergence of fraternal bilateral relations and strengthen people-to-people contacts between the two brotherly countries.
The Festival will be followed by display of diverse variety of Pakistani mangoes at the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Day on 10 July 2023 and at “Pakistani Mango Expo” at Al Zahraa Co-Op (Jmeiat uz Zahraa) on 11 July 2023.
