(2017-01-09) The distinguishing feature in London’s iconic New Year Parade this year on January 1 was the participation of an official contingent from Pakistan High Commission, London, the first ever participation in over three decades by any High Commission/Embassy in the UK Annual Parade.

The colourful melange comprised of performances featuring dancing horses, drum beating, regional music, Kalash dance, Qawwali performances, and playing of Pakistani national songs. Millions of people lined up to watch the Parade on streets, and deeply appreciated Pakistani performances.

The Parade was widely covered by British local and international media, including BBC, Sky News, Euro news and others. The event, showcasing more than 8500 performers from 20 countries this year, and with worldwide viewership of over 30 million, aptly portrayed Pakistan’s diverse culture and traditions to the world community.

Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan’s High Commissioner Syed Ibne Abbas noted that showcasing Pakistan’s cultural diversity and beauty would help change its perception in the international world, and promote Pakistan’s prospects of tourism.

This year marks the 70th Anniversary of Pakistan’s Independence. Participation in the Parade is one of the series of events planned by the High Commission in London in the year 2017, to commemorate 70th Anniversary celebrations.
