Political Consultations were held between Pakistan and Austria in Vienna on 3rd June 2015. The Pakistan delegation was led by Mr. Nadeem Riyaz, Additional Secretary (Europe). The Austrian side was headed by Ms. Gabriele Méon-Tschürtz, Director/Additional Secretary of Asia Department and Ambassador Hubert Heiss, Director General for EU Coordination and Economic Affairs.
The discussions were focused on enhancing bilateral, political, educational and cultural relations. It was also agreed that the two sides would undertake efforts to increase parliamentary exchanges.
The two sides also agreed to further economic relations by holding the next Joint Working Group (JWG) in November this year. Pakistan and Austria would also work towards exchange of business delegations. Austria would also make full use of Pakistan’s investor-friendly climate.
Discussions also focused on regional and global issues including Afghanistan, India, China, Europe and the Middle East.
It was also agreed that the next round of consultations would be held in Islamabad in 2016.
