Today, the Pakistan Embassy in Vienna Organised an event to mark the Independence Day and the Defence Day of Pakistan. Mr. Flurianchutz Peter, Member of Vienna’s City Council and the Head of City Council’s Committee for European and International Affairs and Ms. Gudrun Wallenbock, Vice President of Austria-Pakistan Association, were the guests of honour. Members of the Pakistani community from different Cities of Austria and Slovakia attended the event in large numbers accompanied by their local friends.
Children from the Pakistani community sang national songs and performed to regional music from different parts of Pakistan. They also made speeches on themes related to the Independence Day and Defence Day.
In their remarks, the guests of honours appreciated the cultural richness that Pakistani community added to the multi-cultural character of the city of Vienna, as well as the contribution that Pakistani community was making to the Austrian society and economy. Mr. Florianchutz also recalled with appreciation that Pakistan was hosting millions of refugees with the characteristic large-heartedness of Pakistani people.Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Aftab Ahmed Khokher paid tribute to the Founding Fathers of Pakistan, as well as the armed forces of Pakistan for defending the nation’s independence and sovereignty. He urged the Pakistani community to stay united and serve as a bridge between Pakistan and Austria.
The community members expressed great appreciation for the Embassy’s initiative in organising the event which provided the children an opportunity to re-connect with the Pakistani culture.
