The Embassy of Pakistan, Dushanbe organized “Iqbal Day” in collaboration with Pakistan Study Centre, National University of Tajikistan, Dushanbe to commemorate the 145th birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal. A large number of renowned academicians, Tajik & Pakistani students and members of Pakistani community attended.
The event started with the introductory remarks by Prof. Khushvakhtzoda Kobiljon Khushvakht, Rector, Tajik National University. He shared his thoughts on different aspects of Allama Iqbal’s poetry and philosophy.
Ambassador Imran Haider, in his remarks, highlighted the philosophy of the Poet of East which had played a critical role in the political awakening of Muslims of the sub-continent.
He said that Allama Iqbal revived the spirit among Muslims to seek their true identity, to discover and assert the concept of “khudi” for individual as well as collective progress and prosperity. Allama Iqbal’s poetry has a universal message, he longed for the betterment of whole humanity.
Ambassador Haider added that Allama Iqbal gave us vision of separate homeland for Muslims of the subcontinent at Allahabad in 1930 which became a reality on 14th of August 1947.
Several scholars from the Tajik National University spoke about different aspects of Allama Iqbal’s works. They underscored that Iqbal’s works had universal appeal and are being appreciated all over the world. There is a need to revert to Iqbal’s message and thinking in order to confront modern day challenges plaguing modern societies in general and Muslim societies in particular.
A large number of students of the Urdu Department, Tajik National University recited verses of Allama Muhammad Iqbal on the occasion.
The event ended with distribution of gifts by the Ambassador among the students and faculty members of the University.
