Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif met the Secretary General of the United Nations Mr. Ban Ki-moon on 27 September 2013. The Secretary General expressed his deep sense of satisfaction over his recent highly successful visit to Pakistan. He commended the positive and constructive role being played by Pakistan in the United Nations, particularly as the largest troop contributing country to UN peacekeeping operations. The Prime Minister thanked the Secretary General for his support to democracy in Pakistan. He also briefed him on his initiatives to improve relations with India and to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan. The Secretary General expressed appreciation for these peace initiatives. In the context of discussions on UN’s development agenda, particularly the social sector, the Prime Minister stated that his government was committed to achieving MDGs and allocating more resources for the health and education sectors.
