Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani will pay an official visit to the State of Qatar on 6-8 February 2012. He will meet, among others, the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, and the Prime Minister, H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani.

Pakistan and Qatar have traditionally enjoyed very warm and brotherly relations. The visit of Prime Minister is aimed at opening new vistas for enhanced mutual cooperation and activating the existing structured mechanisms and institutional linkages.

Main objectives of the visit are to underscore the need for activating existing cooperative mechanisms such as the Annual Bilateral Political Consultations, the Joint Ministerial Commission and the Joint Business Council, to promote export of manpower to Qatar, to expand cooperation in the field of energy, and to seek Qatar’s support to our bid to conclude a Free Trade Agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Opportunities between our two countries abound. During the Prime Minister’s visit, Pakistan will seek to further deepen bilateral ties in diverse areas. He would particularly encourage Qatari entrepreneurs to invest in Pakistan in the sectors of energy, infrastructure, agriculture, health and education. Prime Minister will also explore possibilities for the export of Pakistani manpower to Qatar.

Qatar, with its huge energy resources, is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. It is a fast developing country making significant strides in all spheres. Pakistan is confident that the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit would take the brotherly relationship between the two countries to ever new heights to the mutual benefit of the two countries and peoples.
