The Prime Minister of Pakistan left for Norway today at the invitation of Norwegian Prime Minister, Erna Solberg. This will be the first official visit by a Pakistani leader to Norway in over a decade. During his visit to Oslo, the Prime Minister will participate in the Oslo Summit on Education for Development on 7th July. The Summit aims at mobilizing strong and renewed political commitment to reach out to the 58 million children who are denied their right to education. The Summit is being attended by a number of world leaders including the UN Secretary General.

The Prime Minister will also lead a panel discussion on “Education in emergencies and protracted crisis” at the Summit. He will interact with a number of leading personalities in the field of education including Rt. Hon Gordon Brown, UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Global Education.

In addition to participating in the Summit, the Prime Minister will also hold delegation level talks with his Norwegian counterpart. He will also meet HRH Haakon Magnus, Crown Prince of Norway.

The visit will provide an opportunity to the Prime Minister not only to attend an important International Conference on Education but also to discuss bilateral, global and regional issues with the top Norwegian leadership.

The Prime Minister’s visit will help in strengthening the existing ties between Pakistan and Norway.
