MAJOR GENERAL AKHTAR JAMIL RAO, HI (M), (RETD)
Major General Akhtar Jamil Rao, Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) (Retd) was commissioned in Pakistan Army in 1984. The General Officer retired from Pakistan Army in 2019 after serving the country for 35 years. He has diversified command, staff and instructional experience. His staff assignments include Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade, General Staff Officer Grade-I (Operations) and Director General Engineers. He has commanded an Engineer Battalion, an Engineer Brigade and an Engineer Division. He has also been Surveyor General of Pakistan. His instructional assignments include Directing Staff at Command and Staff College Quetta and Directing Staff at National Defence University Islamabad.
He is a graduate of Military College of Engineering Risalpur, Command & Staff College Quetta, National Defence University Islamabad and National Defence College Bangladesh. He has also done International Border Interdiction Training Course from United States of America and Managing Defence in Wider Security Context Course conducted by United Kingdom at Nepal. He has also attended International Symposium Course at National Defence University, China. The General Officer holds Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering and Master Degrees in War Studies and Art & Science of Warfare.
The General Officer while commanding the Engineer Division under took social sector development of Tribal Districts and Swat. He also conducted sustained relief and rehabilitation operations for Temporarily Displaced Persons in North Waziristan.
He plays golf and enjoys travelling and reading. He is happily married to Brig Dr. Ayesha Mazhar (Retd) and has four daughters.
