Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Mr. Tariq Fatemi attended the Ministerial meeting of the Uniting for Consensus Group (UfC) hosted by Italian Foreign Minister Emma Bonino in New York on 25 September 2013.
Pakistan and other like-minded countries of the UfC advocate a comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council and are opposed in principle to expansion in the category of permanent members. The meeting reaffirmed the Group’s position and called for a democratic, representative and equitable reform of the Security Council.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister underlined the importance of a negotiated solution to Security Council reform that would accommodate the interests of all Member States, not just a few.
The Group reiterated its readiness to work with all member states in a constructive spirit to make progress on the reform issue.
