H.E. Kees Van Baar, Netherland’s Ambassador for Human Rights called on Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs (SAPM) today.

While expressing Pakistan’s satisfaction at its cordial relations with the Netherlands, the SAPM called for strengthening these ties further, especially in the economic and trade sectors. As regards, EU’s concerns on human rights, he briefed the visiting dignitary on Pakistan’s fight against terrorism and the situation of human rights in Pakistan. He emphasized that the constitution of Pakistan fully guarantees the fundamental rights of all its citizens irrespective of religion, caste or creed. He also underlined the reasons for lifting the moratorium on death penalty.

Kees Van Baar appreciated Pakistan’s fight against terrorism and extremism and the various steps being taken by the government to eradicate this menace. He also reiterated the desire of the Dutch government to enhance bilateral relations with Pakistan.

Both agreed that promotion of peace and interfaith harmony were essential for development and economic stability.
