A simple, dignified ceremony was held at the Consulate General of Pakistan in Milan on August 3, 2020 to express solidarity with the people of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK). More than 150 members of Pakistani community including political and religious leaders, students and Kashmiris participated in the ceremony. Lord Nazir Ahmad, a prominent Kashmiri British politician and other guests from Europe also participated. This was the first public gathering at the Consulate General since outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic.

After recitation from Holy Quran, national anthem of Pakistan and Kashmir anthem were played. A small girl Maryam Nadeem read a poem in Italian for the Kashmiri children. In his speech, Lord Nazir Ahmed paid rich tributes to the people of IOJK for their struggle against Indian oppression. He stated that Indian atrocities have touched new heights after annexation of IOJK by Indian occupation forces. He demanded world community to take note of Indian barbarism in IOJK and press India to grant right to self determination to the people of IOJK.

In his address to the gathering, Consul General Dr. Manzoor A. Chaudhry stated that United Nations Security Council resolutions have clearly given the right of choice to people of Kashmir and a plebiscite must be held without delay enabling Kashmiri people to decide their future. He castigated Indian occupation forces for brutalities wrecked on unarmed Kashmiri people. He demanded that world nations must meet their obligation and press India to honour its commitment to the world. He reiterated Pakistan’s continued diplomatic, moral and political support to people of IOJK. He also appreciated members of Pakistani community for their continued support to Kashmiri people.

Prayers were offered for independence of IOJK from Indian occupation. Refreshments were served at the end of the programme.
