The Mission organized an event comprising the following three segments at the Chancery on 24th October, 2018:

a) Highlighting the need for implementation of the UN report on Indian Occupied Kashmir: A documentary on Kashmir was played which was followed by a short speech by the Charge d’Affaires Mr. Fayaz Ahmad Khan. The implementation of UN report calling for establishment of an Independent Commission of Inquiry to investigate the gross human rights violations taking place in IoK was stressed. The participants were asked to use their influence for raising the issue of Kashmir on different forums. Endorsing the UN Report on the Indian Occupied Kashmir, the participants stated as we celebrated today the 73rd UN Day, the real test for International Community lies in implementing the UN Resolutions on Kashmir to end the Indian atrocities against innocent Kashmiris;

b) Creating Awareness about donations for the constructions of Dams: Mr. Fayaz Ahmad Khan, in his remarks appealed to the community members to generously donate for the construction of dams in Pakistan to overcome water scarcity in the country. He stated that Pakistan was looking forward to the overseas Pakistani for their contribution. The primary purpose of the event was to create awareness among the Pakistani community residing in Portugal about the water scarcity in the country and finding solutions to it;

c) Promotion of Tourism: The participants were enlightened about the strength of tourism sector in Pakistan. Mr. Jao Rolo, famous Portuguese designer, who visited Pakistan recently, in his short message to the gathering stated that “for me Pakistan is as safe as Europe”. He appreciated the hospitality, traditions and fashion industry of Pakistan also.

A good number of Pakistani community members, representatives of the Portuguese Think Tanks and civil society attended the event. The media team of ARY, Dunya News and Editor of IPP Mr. Azfar Bukhari also collaborated for making the event successful.
