Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Bangkok-based UN Regional Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), today, called on Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs.
The two sides held exchange of views on Pakistan –UNESCAP cooperation on an array of socio-economic development issues of regional significance including inclusive growth, sustainable development and regional connectivity.
The SAPM said that Pakistan accorded importance to its relationship with the United Nations system including its affiliated bodies and agencies. UNESCAP could play a vital role in promoting synergies among the countries of the Asia-Pacific to accelerate sustainable development and economic uplift of the entire region.
SAPM reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to play a positive and substantive role in strengthening regional integration in the Asia Pacific.
