A US delegation led by USAID Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah called on Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, today. Foreign Secretary was also present in the meeting. The two sides discussed matters relating to bilateral relations, especially economic cooperation between the two countries.
The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan wanted to have a mutually beneficial relationship with the US adding that the Parliamentary process had established a public ownership of this relationship, ushering in a new era of transparency and predictability. She appreciated USAID projects which benefitted the people of Pakistan and urged them to undertake transformational projects like Terbela and Mangla Dams in Pakistan. Ms. Khar also stressed that Pakistan wanted preferential access to the US market as it would help provide new opportunities for the Pakistani businesses.
Dr. Rajiv Shah stated that the US fully respected the Parliamentary process and that it would continue to build its multifaceted relationship with Pakistan. He assured that the USAID would remain engaged in developing the priority sectors of energy, health, agriculture and education in Pakistan.
