Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi's meeting with Foreign Minister of Malaysia
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Foreign Minister of Malaysia, Dato Saifuddin bin Abdullah, met today on the sidelines of OIC Council of Foreign Minister (CFM) meeting, being held in Jeddah.
Referring to the Malaysian Prime Minister's recent visit to Pakistan, Foreign Minister Qureshi expressed the confidence that the longstanding, fraternal ties between the two countries will further strengthen under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan and Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad.
Both sides reaffirmed the desire to promote bilateral cooperation in the economic arena as well as enhancement of bilateral trade with a particular focus on halal food industry and tourism. The prospects of defence cooperation, including in the field of defence production, also came under discussion. Both sides also agreed to expand cooperation in the industries of the future i.e. robotics and artificial intelligence.
The two sides further decided to intensify people-to-people exchanges with a special focus on parliamentary exchanges and linkages between electoral institutions, anti-corruption mechanisms and institutions of higher learning.
Foreign Minister Qureshi noted that Pakistan and Malaysia enjoyed convergence of views on a number of regional and international issues and had a tradition of close cooperation in different regional and international fora. He apprised his Malaysian counterpart of Pakistan's vision of deeper engagement with Southeast Asia and underscored Pakistan’s interest in further upgradation of Pakistan's Sectoral Dialogue Partnership with ASEAN.
