Pakistan and Saudi Arabia agreed to take their relationship to new heights
Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Mr. Sartaj Aziz yesterday met the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia Mr. Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, on sidelines of the 70th UN General Assembly in New York.
Mr. Sartaj Aziz expressed condolences on tragic accidents during this year's Hajj that resulted in loss of precious lives. Foreign Minister Al Jubeir stated that the Saudi Government has ordered an in-depth inquiry into the tragic accidents. He also briefed his Pakistani counterpart on steps taken by the Saudi Government to prevent the recurrence of such accidents.
The two leaders reviewed the existing multifaceted bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia relations and agreed to take this relationship to new heights, particularly in the field of defense cooperation, trade and law enforcement.
The two leaders also discussed regional and global situation, with particular focus on Yemen and Afghanistan. They agreed to enhance cooperation to counter the threats posed by terrorists and extremists. Mr. Sartaj Aziz briefed his Saudi counterpart on India-Pakistan relations and worsening situation on the Line of Control and Working Boundary, resulting from ceasefire violation by Indian troops in the Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Urging high-level exchanges to further promote ongoing bilateral cooperation, Mr. Sartaj Aziz invited Foreign Minister Al-Jubeir to visit Pakistan. Accepting the invitation, the Saudi Foreign Minister expressed warm sentiments about Pak-Saudi ties and stated that would visit Pakistan very soon.
