SAPM's Meeting with Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD)
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs (SAPM) Syed Tariq Fatemi met with Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, senior member of House Appropriations Committee at the Capitol Hill yesterday. Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani and Congressional Staff of the State and Defence Appropriations Committees attended the meeting.
The SAPM briefed Congressmen Ruppersberger on the state of Pakistan-US bilateral relations with special focus on economic cooperation. The SAPM highlighted government's measures for domestic economic growth, including achieving fiscal stability, increasing revenues, expanding trade and Government's regional outreach in interest of stimulating economic connectivity as a vehicle for achieving long-term prosperity for people of the region.
As a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger identified education and energy as priorities of the US Congress in expanding economic cooperation with Pakistan. Both sides also discussed the potential of bilateral trade, enhancing economic linkages and stimulating people-to-people contacts.
Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger fondly recalled many of his past visits to Pakistan and specially appreciated Pakistan's strong measures to counter militancy and terrorism.
