The Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels organised a special seminar to commemorate Kashmir Solidarity Day, reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) and highlighting the continued human rights violations in the occupied territory.
Messages from the President of Pakistan, the Prime Minister, and the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister were read out during the seminar. The messages reiterated Pakistan’s principled stance on Kashmir and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to extending political, moral, and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people until the realisation of their inalienable right to self-determination, as enshrined in relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Prominent guest speakers drew attention to the grave and deteriorating human rights situation in IIOJK, underscoring the impact of prolonged military occupation, arbitrary detentions, restrictions on civil liberties, and suppression of fundamental freedoms. They called upon the international community, particularly the European Union, to play a more proactive role in addressing these violations and facilitating a just resolution of the Kashmir dispute. Addressing the gathering, Ambassador of Pakistan to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg, H.E. Rahim Hayat Qureshi, stated that Kashmir remains the core unresolved issue of South Asia and a serious threat to regional peace and stability. He stressed that lasting peace in the region is not possible without a fair and peaceful settlement of the Jammu & Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and the relevant UN resolutions. The Ambassador further highlighted India’s continued attempts to change the demographic and political landscape of IIOJK and urged the international community to hold India accountable for its actions.
A special documentary on Kashmir was also screened, depicting the struggles, resilience, and sacrifices of the Kashmiri people and providing firsthand insight into the humanitarian situation on the ground. The seminar was attended by members of the Pakistani diaspora, Kashmiri activists, students, journalists, and representatives of civil society, who expressed solidarity with the people of Kashmir and renewed their commitment to raising awareness about the issue in Europe.
The Embassy reaffirmed its resolve to continue engaging with European institutions, media, and civil society to amplify Pakistan’s perspective and advocate for justice, human rights, and self-determination for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
