The Embassy of Pakistan, Sofia, organized a virtual meeting on 'Kashmir Solidarity Day' on 5th February 2024, in order to express solidarity with Kashmiri people and highlight the incessant human rights violations of the Kashmiri people by Indian forces in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK)
- The ceremony, was attended by a cross-section of Pakistani community members and students studying in Sofia. At the outset, messages of the President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister were read out to the audience. It was followed by a video message by Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, Chairman Senate Defence Committee of Pakistan, highlighting the Human rights violations in Kashmir and drawing a parallel between these and the gross atrocities on Palestinian people by Israel. A documentary on the Kashmir issue was also screened during the event.
- Ambassador Mazhar Javed, DG, Foreign Service Academy (FSA) Islamabad, apprised the participants on the genesis and current scenario of the Kashmir issue. Speaking on the matter, Ambassador Javed said that the issue stems from denial of self determination to Kashmiri people at the time of decolonization of the sub-continent in 1947.
- Speaking on the occasion Ambassador Modasar Chaudhry said that the government of Pakistan would continue to provide all moral, diplomatic and legal support to the Kashmiri people till achievement of their inalienable right to self-determination. He emphasized the need to resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the will of Kashmiri people and the relevant United Nation Security Council Resolutions. He also appealed to all community members and Pakistani students in Bulgaria to effectively advocate for the Kashmir cause.
- The Ambassador thanked all participants for sparing their time on a working day to be a part of this important occasion.
