On August 5, 2024, the High Commission of Pakistan in Kigali hosted a significant event to observe Youme Istehsal, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the Kashmir issue. The gathering saw participation from a large number of Rwandans, Pakistani community members, notable figures, and media representatives from Rwanda.
The event included screening of a documentary video which highlighted the ongoing brutalities faced by the people in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) due to the actions of Indian occupation forces. The documentary aimed to shed light on the severe human rights violations occurring in the region. The event also connected Kashmir issue with Peace, Security and Prosperity in South Asia.
Messages from the President, Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister of Pakistan were read to the audience, emphasizing Pakistan's steadfast commitment to the Kashmir cause.
H.E Ambassador Naeem Khan gave a comprehensive briefing on the historical context of the Kashmir dispute and the current situation in IIOJK, particularly after the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35(A). He spoke about the Indian government's efforts to alter the demographic composition of the region and reaffirmed Pakistan's moral, political, and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people. He urged the audience to inform the host country people in their circles regarding Kashmir dispute and the brutal violation of human rights of the Kashmiri people at the hands of Indian occupation forces.
Dr. Gamariel Mbonimana, a prominent Rwandan professor also spoke at the event. He expressed solidarity with the Kashmir cause and reinforced the commitment of the Rwandan people to support the Kashmiri struggle for justice for peace and prosperity in the region.
Mr. Edward, President of Delight Rwanda, a prominent NGO and Hafiz Muhammad Irfan, Chairman Pakistani Community Association, Rwanda also spoke on the occasion.
The event followed by Questions and Answers session which was highly appreciated as the audience took keen interest in it.
