H.E. Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Russian Federation, participated in the First Meeting of Ministers of Sports and Senior Sports Officials of Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Member States, held today in Samara. The meeting was titled: "From Tradition to Innovation: The Future of Sport in ACD Countries."
In his address to the forum, Ambassador Tirmizi highlighted Pakistan’s national sporting pride, specifically citing Pakistan's first-ever Olympic Gold Medal in Javelin Throw by Arshad Nadeem, and Pakistani first female mountaineers – Samina Baig and Naila Kiani – who conquered Mount Everest and K2.
The Ambassador further noted Pakistan's commitment to developing its sports sector, stating that the government is upgrading infrastructure, introducing scholarships, and promoting sports festivals. This initiative is designed "to ensure that every talented child has an equal opportunity to shine." He added that Pakistan is placing special emphasis on youth and women empowerment through sports.
Ambassador Tirmizi underscored Pakistan’s appreciation for Russia’s leadership in fostering dialogue, partnership, and innovation in sports among ACD member states. He called upon members to share expertise, technology, and best practices for the advancement of sports across Asia.
He concluded by expressing a hopeful vision for regional unity "where sports unite us, inspire our youth, and bring lasting friendship among our nations."
The First Meeting of Ministers and Senior Sports Officials was held on the sidelines of the 13th International Sports Forum ‘Russia: Country of Sports.’ Representatives from 23 countries attended the ACD event.
