HE Ali Javed, the Ambassador of Pakistan, joined by 125 guests, accorded very warm welcome to Their Excellencies Majid Al Rouahi and Mahfoodh Al Wahaibi, representing the State Council of Oman and their Pakistani counterparts hon'ble Senators Mir Kabeer Ahmed and Ashok Kumar upon arrival at 'Pakistan House' last night. A Diplomatic Reception was hosted by the Ambassador to mark the inaugural session of 'Pak-Oman Friendship Committee' of the Upper Houses of the Parliament held on the premises of State Council of Oman earlier in the day. Among the guests were prominent citizens of both countries including Professional, Businessmen, Educationists, Sportsmen, Academia, Intellectuals and Media. The Event was studded with marked presence of community leaders a diverse presence of Pakistanis residing across the brotherly Sultanate including Pakistanis with Hindu faith, Baloch and Pashtun-Baloch communities. The vibrant Pakistanis with Christian faith could not participate in the Event in observance of the ongoing month of fasting. Traveling from long distances such as Burami (bordering UAE), Nizwa, Sohar and Suwaiq, the guests effusively applauded the 'Investiture Ceremony' moderated by the Ambassador to confer the title of 'Advisor to Ambassador of Pakistan for Interfaith Harmony & National Integration' to Dr. Shiyam Kumar, an inspirational leader and consensus for the position. The Certificate of Appointment was presented to Dr. Shiyam by Senator Ashok Kumar assisted by aforementioned three Senators. Lauding the initiative as a true reflection of the depth and diversity of Pakistani society, the Hon'ble Senator observed, "Services and contributions of the 1500 Pakistanis practicing Hindu faith in Oman stand acknowledged. I call upon Dr. Shiyam to continue promoting interfaith harmony and consolidating national integration, with greater zeal and zest, and furthering the historical bonds of friendship between both nations". There are 272,000 Pakistanis residing in Oman, accounting for 3rd spot in Gulf and 6th worldwide. Previously, one such title was bestowed upon the consensus nominee from the 3,000 Pakistanis with Christian faith residing across Oman i.e., Reverend Zeresh Daniel on January 30th 2019 by the visiting Foreign Minister of Pakistan HE Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
