The Embassy of Pakistan in Muscat, Oman observed Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir today in a dignified event. A large segment of the Pakistani-Omani community participated in the event. Messages of the President, the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister of Pakistan were read out by the Deputy Head of Mission and Community Welfare Attache. A Documentary film highlighting the plight of the Kashmiri people in IIOJ&K was also displayed during the event. Associate Professor at Sultan Qaboos University, Dr. Zahid Qamar and Acting Chairman of Pakistan Social Club Oman, Mr. Zahid Shakoor shared their thoughts on the Jammu & Kashmir dispute and the significance of observing 5th August as Youm-e-Istehsal. In addition to speeches, renowned Pakistani-Omani poet, Mr. Nasir Maroof recited poem highlighting the plight of Kashmiri people.
In his keynote remarks, Ambassador Syed Naveed Safdar Bokhari reiterated Government and people of Pakistan’s unflinching resolve to support the just struggle of the people of IIOJ&K for their right to self-determination, thwart Indian designs to bring unilateral and illegal demographic and administrative changes in IIOJ&K, and expose Indian atrocities against the innocent people of IIOJ&K. He remarked that the articles 35A and 370 signified India’s acceptance that the issue of Jammu and Kashmir still awaited resolution. Their abrogation was not only a blatant violation of International law and UNSC resolutions but also a betrayal of India’s commitments to the International community and the people of IIOJ&K. He saluted the indomitable courage of the people of IIOJ&K against the worst oppression at the hands of Indian occupation forces. The Ambassador also lauded the efforts of the Pakistani diaspora especially the Kashmiri community in raising awareness about the dispute in various parts of the world. He emphasized the importance of educating our children and youth about the dispute to defeat Indian efforts to distort history. The Ambassador also urged the international community to play its role in resolving the dispute. He concluded by reaffirming Government of Pakistan’s commitment to continue to support and giving voice to the just struggle and plight of the people of IIOJ&K at all global and regional fora.
