The Republic of Cuba, home to 11.2 million people (2017) is located in the northern Caribbean Sea at the confluence with the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Cuba is the largest Antilles in Caribbean countries. At present the capital city of Havana hosts 115 embassies which is more than any other Caribbean country.
Cuba has a tropical climate with diverse cultural identities and customs.
Pakistan and Cuba established diplomatic relations in October 1955. Cuba maintained its Embassy in Pakistan from 1963 to 1991. However, in 1991 Cuba closed its Mission and reopened its Embassy in Islamabad in 2006. Pakistan opened its Embassy in Havana for the first time in 2007.
Pakistan and Cuba enjoy friendly and cooperative relations. Cuba offered scholarships to Pakistani medical students in the aftermath of 2005 earthquake in Pakistan. Presently there are five students studying medicine on scholarship in Cuba.
