In early April, 2026, on a short visit to Pakistan, H.E. Dr. Faryal Leghari, Ambassador of Pakistan to Turkmenistan called on Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan Mr. Atadjan Movlamov to discuss bilateral relations between Pakistan and Turkmenistan. The meeting aimed to address matters of shared interest and to identify principal areas requiring collaboration between both parties amid evolving regional dynamics. Key topics included the forthcoming high-level visit by Turkmen President H.E. Serdar Berdimuhammedov to Pakistan, the significance of connectivity and energy initiatives, and strategies to enhance trade, economic cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and the promotion of Urdu language learning in Turkmenistan.
The Ambassador informed her Turkmen counterpart that, in accordance with directives from Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan is prepared to promptly supply meat and agricultural products to Turkmenistan. She highlighted that this presents an opportune moment to re-establish direct air connectivity, initially through cargo flights, with the goal of subsequently expanding to commercial flights facilitating Pakistani travellers to European and Far Eastern destinations via connecting Turkmen Air services from Ashgabat. In view of ongoing regional challenges, establishing direct air links between the two countries holds particular importance as it would not only foster increased trade and investment but also generate significant revenue for the aviation sectors of both nations, while enhancing access to education and medical tourism opportunities in Pakistan for Turkmen nationals.
