Director General, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi visited Pakistan on February 12-13, 2025, for a series of high-level meetings and site visits. Key highlights of his visit included:
- Meetings with Pakistan's Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister to discuss expanding cooperation on peaceful uses of nuclear technology, particularly for climate change mitigation.
- Formal talks with the Chairmen of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and Nuclear Regulatory Authority, focusing on Pakistan's advancements in nuclear science and technology.
- Participation in an International Conference organized by Women in Nuclear Field Pakistan (WIN-Pakistan).
- Delivery of a keynote address at a seminar on nuclear science and technology's role in achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
- Visit to the Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Oncology Lahore (INMOL), where he inaugurated a new radiopharmaceutical laboratory.
- Tour of the under-construction Chashma Power Plant Unit 5 (C-5) and inauguration of a radioactive waste incinerator at Chashma.
DG Grossi praised Pakistan's nuclear power generation program as one of the world's most successful. This visit underscored the strong cooperation between Pakistan, a founding IAEA member, and the Agency
