Visit of the Prime Minister to Vienna, Austria (15-16 February 2026)
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif paid an official visit to Vienna, Austria, on 15-16 February 2026 upon the invitation of the Austrian Federal Chancellor, Christian Stocker. The visit coincided with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Pakistan-Austria diplomatic relations.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Mr. Attaullah Tarar, and the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Syed Tariq Fatemi.
During the visit, the Prime Minister held one-on-one meeting followed by delegation level talks with the Austrian Federal Chancellor. The discussions focused on expanding and further strengthening the bilateral relations in all fields, including economic cooperation, trade, and investment. The two sides also exchanged views on enhancing collaboration at multilateral fora. The Prime Minister underscored their shared commitment towards a strong United Nations System.
The Federal Chancellor of Austria and the Prime Minister of Pakistan also co-chaired a forum of CEOs of leading Austrian and Pakistani companies to further strengthen investment and business cooperation between the two countries, expanding G2G, G2B, and B2B engagements through the effective use of existing platforms.
Later, the Prime Minister chaired the Pakistan-Austria Business Forum organized by the Austrian Federal Chambers of Commerce. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment towards joint ventures, technology transfers, and expanded business-to-business engagement to translate political goodwill into tangible economic results. The welcome remarks were delivered by the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister.
The Prime Minister also visited the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna and addressed a special event titled ‘Sustainable Development: Pathways for Global Peace and Prosperity’. The event was attended by the heads of Vienna-based international organizations, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of think-tanks and media. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and a strong rules-based order underpinned by the principles of UN Charter. The Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister delivered the opening remarks.
The event was followed by a signing ceremony where Pakistan-UNODC Country Programme (2026-2030); Pakistan-UNIDO Country Partnership Programme (2026-2030); and Pakistan-IAEA Agreement on the Designation of INMOL Hospital Lahore as an IAEA Collaborating Center were signed by the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister of Pakistan.
During the visit, the Prime Minister extended an invitation to the Federal Chancellor to visit Pakistan at a mutually convenient date in the near future.
