Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning Development and Reforms attended the UNESCAP's 3rd Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) on 2-3 April 2016. The Forum is organized annually by UN's Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) to discuss on sustainable development targets, strategies and policies for implementation in the region. UNESCAP is headed by Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, a Pakistan national, and Executive Secretary of UNESCAP. Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, in his remarks focused on national efforts to implement the sustainable development agenda for 2030. He informed that Pakistan accorded the highest priority to SDGs on zero poverty and hunger, universal access to health, education, energy, clean water and sanitation. This would enable Pakistan to join the league of upper middle class countries by 2030. Prof Iqbal said that Pakistan has established an SDG Coordination Unit at the federal level. It was the first country to adopt SDGs 2030 agenda through a unanimous resolution of its Parliament.
