Pakistan Embassy Stockholm celebrated the Independence Day of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the victory in Marka -e – Haq at Pakistan House on 14th August 2025.
Large number of diaspora members from different walks of life, including women and children, and Swedish friends attended the event.The celebration was graced by distinguished guests, including Sara Kuka Salam and Annie Östlund, Mayor of Solna and the Deputy Mayor of Huddinge Municipality. Messages by the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out by Trade and Investment Counsellor Mr. Ahsan Riaz Chaudhary and Syeda Warda Bi Bi Head of Chancery.
Choir of Hallunda Church swooned the audience with the melodious rendition of patriotic songs. One of the highlights of the event was the participation of Swedish children of Pakistan origin whose performance comprising of national songs and speeches filled the audience with patriotic zeal and was received with hearty applause.
In her remarks Ms. Sara Kuka Salam, Mayor Solna Municipality stated that Pakistani diaspora was known for their hard work and professionalism in Sweden. She encouraged the diaspora members to be more involved in local politics and work hard to ensure their compatibility with Swedish society while keeping alive their Pakistani heritage.
Ms. Anni Östlund, Deputy Mayor of Huddinge Municipality, in her remarks felicitated Pakistan on its Independence Day. She reiterated that Sweden is deeply committed to the values of diversity, inclusion and multiculturalism and acknowledged the positive role being played by diaspora members from Pakistan to Swedish society.
Ambassador Bilal Hayee in his address to the gathering, highlighted that Independence Day is celebrated to pay homage to the sacrifices of our forefathers and to the resilience and fortitude of our people. This year, he underscored. the celebrations are two-fold as we also celebrate the victory of armed forces and people of Pakistan in the Operation Bunyaan-un-Marsoos. The courage, the chivalry and sacrifice of our armed forces and the people alike has made it clear to all the foes of our beloved homeland that no worldly power can undo our cherished motherland. He emphasized that Pakistan’s independence is not only cherished achievement but also an ongoing responsibility to preserve it. He also paid tribute to Pakistanis in Sweden and stated that our community thrives not only by preserving our traditions but also by building bridges across cultures. The event culminated with a cake cutting ceremony and gift distribution among little guests of the Embassy.
