Embassy of Pakistan Bangkok hosted a virtual event to observe the Kashmir Black Day 2020. The event was attended by members of the Pakistani community and Thai nationals. The messages of the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan on Kashmir Black Day were read out. A short documentary on the Kashmir dispute and the ongoing Indian brutalities was also shown. Speakers from Pakistani diaspora expressed concern on human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJ&K) and highlighted various aspects of the Kashmir dispute. They noted that the overseas Pakistani community could become voice of their Kashmiri brethren through appropriate and affective use of different social media platforms. They also lamented Indian government’s high-handed measures in the Valley since 5 August last year. The speakers invited attention of the international community towards Indian occupation forces’ cruelties in IIOJ&K and demanded that the dispute should be resolved in accordance with the relevant UNSC Resolutions. Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed briefed the participants about the current humanitarian crisis and the reinvigorated freedom struggle by the Kashmiris particularly after Indian government’s illegal actions of 5 August 2019. He noted that Indian government was denying the Kashmiri people their right to self-determination enshrined in various UN resolutions and trying to suppress their freedom struggle by use of force, but in futility. He noted that Pakistani diaspora could effectively disseminate Pakistan’s narrative using innovative tools. He urged the community members to brief their friends and foreign colleagues about IIOJ&K and advised them to accentuate three dimensions of the dispute i.e. (i) the right to self-determination, (ii) Indian non-implementation of the UNSC resolutions, and (iii) human rights violations, humanitarian crisis and threat to international peace and security. The way forward, he stressed, was in implementing the UNSC resolutions and letting the Kashmiri people exercise their free will to determine their future. Pakistan will continue to fully support the legitimate Kashmir cause. Bangkok 27 October 2020
