To mark Kashmir Solidarity Day on 5 February 2026, the Embassy of Pakistan in Beirut organized a Zoom webinar with the participation of prominent members of civil society, think tanks, academia, and leading journalists from print and electronic media in both Lebanon and Pakistan.
In his remarks, Ambassador Salman Athar underscored the significance of the day, stating that it serves as a reminder of the invaluable sacrifices rendered by the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their just struggle for their inalienable right to self-determination. The Ambassador highlighted the human rights violations and hardships faced by innocent Kashmiris in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK). He emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognized dispute and stressed the imperative of implementing the United Nations Security Council resolutions in letter and spirit for its peaceful resolution.
Other speakers noted that India’s illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019 constituted a blatant violation of international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. They observed that India has since taken a series of steps aimed at further entrenching these illegal measures, including attempts to alter the demographic composition and political landscape of IIOJK. Participants also expressed concern over India’s continued reluctance to pursue a just and lasting settlement of the longstanding dispute.
Later in the evening, the Ambassador hosted prominent Lebanese media representatives, members of civil society, academia, and think tanks at Pakistan House. The participants were briefed on the historical background of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and the significance of Kashmir Solidarity Day. Documentaries and a pictorial exhibition depicting the plight of the Kashmiri people and the situation in IIOJK were also presented.
