An Agreement for establishment of Joint Economic Commission (JEC) between the Republic of Lebanon and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan was signed at the Ministry of Economy i and n Beirut today. H.E Amin Salam Minister of Economy and Trade of Lebanon and H.E. Salman Athar, Ambassador of Pakistan signed the Agreement on behalf of their respective governments.
The Agreement seeks the establishment of a bilateral consultative mechanism for strengthening relations and enhancing cooperation in the fields of trade and investments education, science & technology, agriculture, tourism, information and broadcasting etc. In establishing the Joint Economic Commission (JEC), the two countries agree to exchange information for promotion of trade, mutual visits of business delegations, conducting market research and trade exhibitions on reciprocal basis.
During the ceremony, Minister Salam emphasized the importance of the JEC as another step in deepening trade relations between the two countries and building stronger economic linkages for mutual benefit. Ambassador Athar, on the other hand, reiterated the commitment of his country to strengthen the existing bilateral relations with Lebanon and also highlighted that the JEC will improve dialogue and collaboration on shared and emerging economic investment and trade priorities.
The diplomatic relations between Lebanon and Pakistan were established in 1950s. Both countries enjoy strong fraternal ties and have convergence of positions on major international issues.
