Two relief flights from Pakistan, carrying humanitarian aid from the Government and people of Pakistan for the brotherly people of Lebanon, landed at Rafic Hariri International Airport, Beirut today. This relief effort comes in response to the directives of Prime Minister of Pakistan H.E. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Lebanon during its time of need. The first flight carrying a humanitarian aid of 17 tons comprising rice buckets, ball tents, powdered milk, ready to eat food, hygiene kits and family pack buckets containing various household items and cloths has been arranged by National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan (NDMA) in collaboration with Al Khidmat Foundation Pakistan. The second flight carried a load of 95 tons comprising winterized tents and blankets and has been arranged by the National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan (NDMA).
The aid shipments were received at the Airport by H.E. Salman Athar, Ambassador of Pakistan to Lebanon along with Embassy officials and handed over to the officials of Lebanese Government. While speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Athar said that the Government and people of Pakistan can not leave their Lebanese brethren alone during these challenging times. The Ambassador also reaffirmed Pakistan’s full support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
So far, four special cargo planes from Pakistan have brought a total aid of 229 tons for the people of Lebanon, and more humanitarian aid is scheduled to be dispatched from Pakistan during the next few days.
