Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Chairman Parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), paid a visit to Lebanon, on the invitation of the Lebanese Government, on 29-30 September 2017. He called Prime Minister Saad Hariri. The two leaders fondly recalled the evolution of friendly relations between the two countries over the past two decades as well as the significant support extended at the time of adversity. Prime Minister Hariri underscored his and his late father, former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri shaheed's close affiliation with Pakistan. Acknowledging the fraternal affinity between Pakistan and Arabs, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed reminded of the late Prime Minister's visit to Pakistan in March 1997 to express Lebanon's solidarity on the golden jubilee celebration of Pakistan Resolution. He stressed Pakistan's abiding espousal of the Arab causes and the tangible support it had extended to its Arab brethren. As a gesture of close friendship, Prime Minister Hariri hosted a lunch for Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, at his private residence in Beirut. Discussion on the occasion covered a range of subjects of mutual interest including bilateral relations and the situation inside and around Lebanon. The Lebanese side expressed its keen desire to learn and benefit from Pakistan's experience in materializing the CPEC project and its implementation on the ground. In this context, it mentioned its interest to attract Chinese investment for the ongoing upgradation of the Tripoli port as well as the Tripoli Special Economic Zone (TSEZ) in Lebanon. The Senator shed comprehensive light on the CPEC. Extensive discussions were held touching upon the different dimensions of the Lebanese interest. The Senator later travelled to Tripoli, Lebanon's second largest city, where he was given briefings on the Rachid Karami International Fair, Port up-gradation and Tripoli Special Economic Zone projects. He was taken around the sites and shown the progress of projects' implementation. He interacted with a number of senior government functionaries, parliamentarians and private sector representatives while in Lebanon. Since Prime Minister Saad Hariri assumed his office in November 2016, this was the first visit from Pakistan. Beirut 30 September 2017
