Today, on 18 September 2024, the Embassy of Pakistan in collaboration with Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), organised an event "Pakistan-IAEA Collaboration of Hope" on the sidelines of 68th Session of IAEA General Conference in Vienna.
The purpose of the event was to showcase the excellent work being done by PAEC operated 19 nuclear diagnostic and treatment centres in the area of cancer treatment through the employment of nuclear technology.
Besides high-level delegates, Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General IAEA, DDG Nuclear Applications & Dir Nuclear Health also attended the event.
During the event, the DG IAEA also launched the 3rd Edition of PAEC booklet "Atoms for Sustainable Development". The booklet depicts application of nuclear science & technology in Pakistan for the achievement of UN SDGs.
Director General Grossi praised Pakistan's expertise & experience in the nuclear field and terms Pakistan as an IAEA partner for the promotion of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes worldwide.
While highlighting the indispensable role of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission in the achievement of UN SDGs, Chairman PAEC & Ambassador reiterated Pakistan's commitment to share its expertise with member states in the area of cancer treatment under IAEA Rays of Hope Initiative.
Furthermore, they also termed the declaration of NORI, Islamabad as IAEA Anchor Center, recognition of Pakistan's capabilities in the area of peaceful application of nuclear technology.
Previously, on 17 September 2024, Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar, Chairman PAEC, delivered Pakistan’s national statement during the ongoing 68th Session of IAEA General Conference and highlighted the role of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes in Pakistan and its potential to counter challenges posed by climate change.
