The Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN in Vienna, Ambassador Kamran Akhtar, delivered Pakistan’s National Statement during the IAEA Board of Governors Meeting currently in Session from 09-13 in Vienna.
The Permanent Representative, during his statement, highlighted the following:
- Pakistan hosted several regional training courses, fellowships, scientific visits under the umbrella of IAEA in which more 150 participants were trained
- IAEA conducted a review mission of NORI Anchor Center in Islamabad. Recommendations of this mission are being implemented.
- Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), a collaborating center and IAEA’s partner in Marie Curie Fellowship programme has offered 20 scholarships at all level in the field of nuclear science and technology.
- Pakistan has expressed government level commitment to participate in the Atom4Food initiative and we are all set for a Ministerial level kick-off meeting in this regard.
- Pakistan has hosted ConvEx-2c exercise, enabling the Secretariat and Member States to evaluate both national and international Emergency Prepared and Response protocols. The comprehensive exercise replicated a serious nuclear event, emphasizing public safety, international support and the exchange of real-time information.
- Chairman of Pakistan’s Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) was elected as President of the 10th review meeting of the CNS while two other officials were elected as officer of the convention. This is manifestation of the trust deposed by CNS member States in Pakistan’s Nuclear Safety credentials.
He further stated that, Pakistan demonstrated exemplary cooperation and engagements with IAEA in 2024. These events included Nuclear Energy Summit, Brussels, in March 2024, International Conference on Nuclear Security ICONS in May 2024, World Fusion Energy Group (WFEG- November 2024) Rome, Italy, Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Science, Technology and Applications and the Technical Cooperation Programme November 2024, Vienna, Austria.
