The Consulate General of Pakistan in Milan organised a dignified ceremony
commemorating the Youmn-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir. The gathering attracted a significant number of Pakistani & Kashmiri diaspora, including families,
students and activists, who had gathered to condemn the illegal and unilateral
actions taken by India on August 5, 2019.
Following the recitation of the Holy Quran, messages from the President, Prime
Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan were read out. In his remarks,Consul General Mr. Murad Baseer stated that, in Pakistan's view, India's actions of 5 August 2019 have not resolved the Kashmir dispute. He criticized India’s
nefarious designs that seek to alter the demographic and political landscape of
Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), including the issuance
of domiciles to non-Kashmiris, electoral delimitation, the banning of Kashmiri
political parties, and the detention of political leaders and activists.
The event also highlighted Pakistan's concerns regarding the human rights
situation in IIOJK. Speakers referred to search and cordon operations, the use of
pellet guns against protesters and other alleged human rights violations. A documentary depicting developments in the region and presenting Pakistan's
perspective on events since 5 August 2019 was also screened for the audience.
The ceremony concluded with a prayer and a reaffirmation of the continuedsupport by the government and people of Pakistan for the Kashmiri people and
their right to self-determination, in accordance with the relevant United Nations
Security Council resolutions.
