Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein is the only small state of the Holy Roman Empire that has preserved its sovereignty and has no trade relations with Pakistan. All of their activities are routed through Switzerland. The Embassy maintains active contacts this country and Ambassador visits them  to hold meetings with senior officials.

Holy See (The Vatican)

Diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the Holy See were established on 17 July 1950. The Apostolic delegation became the Apostolic Nunciature (Embassy) in 1952.

High Level Visits from Pakistan

• Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called on Pope John Paul II on 21 April 1998.
• President Musharraf met with Pope John Paul II in Vatican on 30 September 2004.
• President Asif Ali Zardari called on Pope Benedict XVI at Castel Gandolfo, Italy on 1 October 2009 during his visit to the Vatican.
• Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi met with his counterpart Archbishop Mamberti on 5 February 2009.
• Senator Kamran Michael, former Federal Minister for Ports & Shipping accompanied by Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, then Minister for Religious Affairs & Interfaith Harmony called on the Pope in Vatican in March 2016 and extended invitation on behalf of the Prime Minister to visit Pakistan.
• Muhammad Yusuf Shaikh, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs visited the Vatican to attend the Consistory for the creation of 14 new cardinals including Archbishop Joseph Coutts of Catholic Church of Karachi by Pope Francis on 28 June 2018.

High Level Visits From the Holy See

• There have been two papal visits to Pakistan: Pope John Paul II visited Pakistan on 16 February 1981 and Pope Paul VI visited Dhaka on 27 November 1970.
• The President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, Cardinal Jean Louis Tauran visited Pakistan in November 2010 and held meeting with Minister for Minorities Affairs, Mr. Shahbaz Bhatti. He also called on the then President Asif Ali Zardari.
• Prime Minister Imran Khan extended a formal invitation to Pope Francis in September 2019, to visit Pakistan.
