Ambassador has proposed to sign a Sister City Agreement between Osh and Lahore during his meeting with Mr. Taalaibek Sarybashev, Mayor of Osh city today. This was the first visit of Ambassador to south and during his visit he would call on Governor and Mayor of Osh and Governor and Mayor of Jalalabad and Rector of Osh State university and Jalalabad State University. Ambassador thanked Mayor for naming main avenue of the city after Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and suggested that Lahore Pakistan would also name one of the main avenues after Chinghiz Aitamatov, famous Kyrgyz writer. Over 200 Pakistani students are studying in Osh. Ambassador also informed that 2600 Pakistani students are contributing over $ 20 million to the Kyrgyz economy every year. However, there is need to further enhance bilateral trade between the two countries. A small Pakistani business community is also working in Kyrgyzstan in various sectors. Ambassador also briefed Mayor on efforts of starting direct flight between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan. Mayor thanked Ambassador for proposal and said that he would look forward to receiving the proposed draft agreement from Pakistan. President Sooronbay Sharipovich Jeenbekov is also from Osh city and has been governor of the province for many years. Bishkek 4th March, 2019
